Blue paper wrappers over staple bound brochure. Spine sunned. Clean and tight, but glue has hardened and the wrappers have partially come away from the textblock. Very Good minus.
A fascinating political pamphlet, detailing the close relationship between the Herenigde Nasionale Party (Reunited National Party) and German Nazism by examining the ideological, political and stated orientation of the HNP by its leaders, various political machinations by the party to attempt to install a fascist state in South Africa and the organisations that supported it: the Ossewabrandwag and Afrikaner Broederbond. Primarily, the brochure deals with South Africa’s support and allegiance to the Allied victors of WWII and the HNP’s constituent betrayal of their country and its citizens by siding with the Axis powers. The brochure was issued by the ruling United Party as political propaganda.
In retrospect, this was perhaps a naive approach, as it has been argued that the detrimental economic consequences of South Africa’s active participation in WWII is one of the reasons the HNP won the 1948 general election.
