2 vols. Near Fine, a touch of foxing to the prelims of vol 2 and a few leaves of vol 1. Many unopened leaves, 0.5cm scuff to the cloth at the head of vol 2. An exceptional set. Bookplate of Michael Scott to front paste downs of both volumes.

A collection of twenty four essays and stories...consisting of lighthearted pieces, serious social comment and historical narratives, all had previously been published in the periodicals Household Words and All the Year Round, edited and owned by Charles Dickens, a close friend and a relative by marriage of the author. Gasson, (pp111-112) gives the title and short synopsis of each of the pieces contained within, noting where each has previously been published.
