Marbled endpapers. Rebacked, with leather spine, 5 raised bands, ornate tooling and titles in gilt - red, pebbled cloth boards with blind tooling. Top edge gilt. Head and tailcaps rebuilt, reinforced cloth corners, many tissue guards appear to be later additions (older guards foxed and browned).

132 pages of exposition, followed by 50 stunningly beautiful, hand coloured plates of common European birds. To the rear are two black and white plates, depicting tools for taxidermy, followed by a 12 page appendix on the preparation of birds for this purpose. Finally, a 32 page catalogue of publisher’s advertisements.

Very good, restored, presents handsomely.
